The Master of Political Science Study Program graduates are directed to choose one of three alternative areas of competence, namely:

Main competencies: becoming the academics / leaders / managers in universities, research institutes of public, politics or society organizations. Graduates with the academic / leadership / managerial competences are expected to be able to become the academics, leaders and managers in universities, research institutions, public organizations, political parties and NGOs, who arecapable in:

Decision making or policy / program making
Organizing education, research and community service on campus / research institutions
Masteringthe basics of leadership and management in public and political organizations, both in local and national levels
Managing theorganizational assets on a national and regional scale
Mobilizingand empowering the organizations in political activities / governance administration on a local / national scale

Supporting competencies: becoming a political analyst or consultant.

Graduates who have competence in this field are expected to be able to become the professional analysts and consultants who support the area of policy making / development programs, including:

Able to identify the political dynamics
Able to dothe political analysis
Able to provide advocacy and consultation in the political field tothe authorized parties
Able to carry out the mediationin social and political conflicts
Able to present the results of the analysis of the political phenomena and present them to the public through the mass media

Other competencies: becoming a manager, researcher and actor of other economic and social activities in the non-political and governmental fields. The graduates who have competence in this field are expected to become the managers, researchers and actors of other economic and social activities in the non-political and governmental fields, by mastering the areas of ability:

Plan, design and carry out the research in non-political and governmental fields
Able to make the analysis and compile the reports inthe fields of work other than the politics and gover
Able to encourage and getinvolved in the economic activities both on a small, medium and large scale.
Able to mobilize the community and the surrounding environment to carry out the social activities
Get engagedin volunteer works, for example in a disaster.

The graduates’ support competencies include the political analysts, policy analysts and researchers who support the professions related to the main competencies. The examples of the graduate profiles that portray the supporting competencies are the political and policy analysts in the Professional Expert (TA) in the Legislative Institution at the central, provincial, and district/city levels. Another example is the political analysts and researchers at the survey institutions both at the national and local levels. Other supporting competencies are found in the profiles of graduates who work in print and online media. Likewise, the media consultant profession for the political parties and political candidates.

Other competencies are skills that are not directly related to the course but still describe the competencies or skills, as well as the way of thinking that is built into the curriculum. For example, the marketing profession that describes the competence/expertise of the persuasion negotiation. Another example is the policy analyst at a legal consulting firm.
